What does JAVS do?

Justice AV Solutions (JAVS for short) provides audio and video recording systems and complete AV support to the courts (and other government agencies.) JAVS has been in business for over 40 years and has recording solutions installed in well over 10,000 courtrooms worldwide and 2,200 Federal Agency Hearing rooms in all 50 states. JAVS has been installing AV solutions in the courts since 1984. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, JAVS is a proud American-owned company that designs, manufactures, installs and provides support for our industry-leading AV equipment specifically designed to capture crystal-clear video and audio recordings in a courtroom. JAVS video technology allows for cost-savings remote arraignment and appearance.

How did JAVS get Started?

The company was founded in 1981 by David Green as a professional audio/video supplier. In 1984, the Kentucky appellate courts experienced state-wide delays in hearing appeals, primarily due to staffing issues and a delay in receiving transcripts. The Kentucky Administrative Office of Courts reached out to JAVS, requesting a way to capture the verbatim record using both audio and video. This pilot project worked so well that the JAVS system was adopted across the state of Kentucky, and the recordings were declared to be the official record. (Kentucky still uses JAVS systems.) Today, David’s son Andrew leads the company and continues the JAVS tradition of delivering prompt and friendly service.

How does a JAVS system work?

Our top-of-the-line video and audio recording system automatically switches camera inputs as the microphones are spoken into, providing crystal-clear audio and HD video for the record. This approach allows our JAVS systems to work with hybrid proceedings at the click of a mouse. JAVS systems can be scaled, offering everything from audio-only solutions to fully functioning hybrid courtrooms with numerous cameras and microphones. Recordings are captured using our purpose-built hardware, easy-to-operate Suite 8 software, and output in a standard (non-proprietary) MP4 digital format.
