FAQExplore some of our most frequently asked questions. For more answers, please speak to one of our representatives. Do you record 4 channels of audio? Yes! JAVS uses E4 technology to create verbatim 4-track audio files. With higher end systems, JAVS can even record an additional 5th track of Audio. The multi-track audio is recorded as an industry standard MPEG-4 file that also includes a video track as well as log data. Saved as a Microsoft Windows Media Video file, it can be played on a myriad of different computers and portable devices. Why do I need video in my courtroom? To assist in creating a verbatim record for transcription purposes. Too often courts mistakenly rely on audio only recording in the courtroom. The addition of video to the record has proven to provide for a much more coherent record. Speakers are visually identifiable and this frees the attorneys to move about the room. Video helps take the guesswork out of reviewing testimony, and eliminates the need of in-depth logging. Does this system replace my Court Reporter? It depends. An assessment of your technology needs should first be done in order to answer the question fairly. Some questions you should consider are; am I looking at JAVS to improve the audio in my courtroom? Can the JAVS System tie all my other technologies together into one integrated system? Can my Court Reporters’ work load be handled efficiently by implementing the system? Can your recording system feed my Public Address system? Yes! All of our systems come equipped with Public Address (PA) outputs. Audio for a live PA and audio for recording inherently require different processing. JAVS handles the difference in an astounding way. You have to hear it to appreciate it. Request a demonstration today! Remote Video Arraignment and Testimony are a necessity for our courts; can that be recorded for the record as well? Yes! Our advanced A/V Processors all have what we call “mix-minus” inputs designed exclusively for remote testimony or video conferencing. With the touch of a button, a two way conversation over great distances can be made a part of the record. If your cameras switch by way of voice activation, what happens when two or more people speak at the same time? One of several things can happen, but most importantly, all the audio is captured. If you watch television closely, you may notice that when two people are speaking over each other in conversation, the camera shot may pull out to include both persons. Similarly, the JAVS System can be made to switch to an overall shot of the courtroom when two or more microphones become active thus showing all speakers involved. Typically your JAVS Technician will program the cameras to stay on the initial activated camera shot and then release it when that particular microphone is no longer active. This helps maintain a smooth, coherent video playback and not a jumpy confusing video image. Also, JAVS utilizes an On-Screen Identification System to show the viewer which microphones are active during the conversation. Microphones can be identified by number, or by custom text. Who is in charge of controlling the system? It can really be quite varied as to who controls the JAVS Systems. The important thing to remember is that the system is designed to operate as automatically as possible. The focus in the courtroom should be on the issues at hand and not on the technology. Our engineering reflects this belief. Stopping and starting the recordings, logging of court testimony, and even mode controls such as Bench Conference are very simple to do. Anyone in the courtroom can operate the system with minimal interference on their daily routine. Can we use the existing security cameras in our courtroom with the JAVS System? Yes! Existing cameras used for security can be implemented into the JAVS switching video process. We recommend that the cameras be color video cameras if you intend to do this. A minor charge may be involved to integrate the camera into our system in order to synchronize the video signal properly. Do we have to buy a new computer? No, the JAVS AutoLog 6.0 software application can run on most standard Microsoft Windows XP computers. This includes Laptop computers as well. All system control, system status and logging can be done from the computer. See your Sales Representative for further details for any computer requirements. Can we use the JAVS system to run a feed to the media? Yes! This is a standard feature on the JAVS CT-4A System. Media feeds, or Stream Feeds can easily be muted. Public and Private testimony will automatically be omitted from not only public versions of the record, but also from the media. |
